A Field of Tulips

By Cleo Allen, living with PH

The shy Sun revealed itself
As a Woman entered
A field of tulips

Row upon row of colours delighted her
And she was cocooned in the tulips embrace
Which took her breath away

This was not the breathlessness which was a frequent unwelcome invader
One that she knew the feeling of well
And whose acquaintance had never been sought

And this was not the breathlessness that often left the door ajar
For other uninvited intruders to enter
The depression and anxiety that so often breached her peace

This was a moments breath taking of beauty
There she stood surrounded by the tulips
That had found favour in her eyes

She closed her eyes
Inhaled their delicate scent
And smiled

I wrote this poem as a reminder of a lovely afternoon spent visiting a tulip festival
