Shifting Sands (The ballad of Stu and Su)

By Su Sands, living with PH

On the 4th day of June in 2022
My Hubby and I finally said “I do”
It was a beautiful day in every way
But there’s a story to tell, if I may?

Forty years earlier to that very day
As a young girl of 17, I was entranced
By a handsome young man, so I asked him to dance.
We were inseparable, an item, love’s young dream
But sadly it ended, the dream was torn at the seams.

Roll forward 30 years, after bereavement and divorce
We are back in touch through some divine force.
30 years melted away as if only days had gone by
Early friendship cemented, true love doesn’t die.
It took a bit longer to finally admit, I can’t live without him, “This is IT!”

Covid 19 didn’t break us, the pandemic isolation
We went into lock down, which panicked the nation.
Come stay with me, We will fight this together!
I think we both knew it was now or never.
So he scooped up his cat, computer and clothes;
Moved in for 3 months to “see how it goes”.
Now six years have passed, I refused to let go
Of my one true love, when you know, you know.

Our health may be failing, but we don’t give a care, even when life gets in a tizz.
He says “everything happens for a reason, we just don’t always know what it is”.
I say “True love will win out in the end.
We are better together, for ever and ever;
my husband, my life, my friend”.

I dedicate this to my Husband who keeps me going on bad days and always finds a way to make me laugh.
