By Stella Cozens, living with PH
Responding to life, we laugh and joke
No-one can see how our hearts are broke
Sometimes we’re condemned as having no feeling
Yet painful reminders just send us reeling
Friends come and see us in the same old way
The grief we have hidden, kept neatly at bay
Staying at home, or venturing out
The restlessness inside is always about
Returning home, there’s so much to say
But the emptiness hits us, they’ve gone away
A lifetime together is brought to an end
People tell me that in time it will mend
I think of the years when I cared for you
The tears and struggles that you went through
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension hidden from view
Good days and bad you had quite a few
Through it all we tried our best
To have fun with plenty of rest
We knew it was there buried deep inside
The pressures increasing until you died
We all have to grieve and we all get to know
But our feelings we struggle hard not to show
We’re just half a person now our partner has gone
Missing the companionship now we’re only one.
Doing the shopping in the grocery isle
A person ahead makes me think and I smile
There they are, my heart’s a quiver
They turn, not you and in pain I shiver
As I lay in my bed alone, just me
You kept me afloat now I am all at sea
Lying awake, I cry until I sleep
When I awake and again I just weep
